FAQs: Mobile Tyre Fitting and Puncture Repairs | MY TYRES London

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question about tyres, tracking or how the service works? Here is a clear run through of the questions London drivers ask most, with a focus on 24/7 mobile and emergency call outs.

Let’s break it down into three sections: general tyre safety, how the service runs and what to expect when you book with MY TYRES.

General Knowledge and Safety

These answers help if you are in research mode and want clear tyre and safety guidance.

Mobile tyre fitting means trained technicians bring the workshop to you. They come to your home, workplace or a safe roadside spot to fit new tyres or repair punctures. The van carries the mounting, balancing and power equipment needed to complete the job on site.
No. A puncture is only safe to repair when it sits in the central part of the tread and meets size limits set by British Standard BS AU 159. Damage on the shoulder or sidewall, or a tyre that has been run flat for too long, will normally need a replacement instead of a repair.
No. Driving on a punctured or flat tyre can ruin the tyre and rim and can make your car hard to steer or stop. If you suspect a puncture, slow down, move to a safe place as soon as you can and then call for help.
Start with tread depth and condition. UK law sets a minimum tread depth of 1.6 mm across the central three quarters of the tread around the full circumference. If you are close to or under that, you need new tyres. Cracks, cuts, bulges or very uneven wear are also strong signs that it is time to change.
For cars and light vans, the legal minimum tread depth is 1.6 mm across the central three quarters of the tread around the whole tyre. Driving on tyres below this limit can lead to a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points for each illegal tyre if you are stopped.

Our Services and Processes

These points cover how the mobile call out and workshop services work in practice.

Please share your exact location, tyre size if you can read it from the sidewall, a short description of the problem and your vehicle registration. With that, the team can plan the route, load the right tyre size and give you a realistic arrival time.
Yes. Every puncture repair follows British Standard BS AU 159. The tyre comes off the wheel, the inside and outside are checked, the injury is prepared and then sealed from the inside with a combined plug and patch. This method gives a permanent, airtight repair in the approved repair area.
When the tyre, injury position and size all meet the BS AU 159 rules and the repair is carried out correctly, the tyre can continue to run for the rest of its legal life under normal use.
If the damage sits outside the repair area or the tyre is not safe to repair, the technician will explain this at the van. The mobile units carry common sizes across budget, mid range and premium brands, so in many cases a new tyre can be fitted there and then.
Wheel alignment, often called tracking, is the process of setting your wheel angles to the figures given by the vehicle maker so the car drives straight and tyres wear evenly. This needs a fixed alignment rig, so it takes place at the MY TYRES workshop rather than on a mobile call out.

Response time depends on where you are and how busy the roads are, but the aim is always to reach you as quickly as the conditions allow. When you call, the team will share an honest estimated time of arrival based on your location and current jobs.
Prices stay clear and simple. The total will depend on whether you need a puncture repair or a new tyre and how far the van needs to travel. You can get an instant quote over the phone before you decide.
Yes. The mobile emergency service runs day and night, every day of the year, including weekends and bank holidays.
The mobile units focus on South East London and nearby districts. If you are close to the area but not sure, a quick call is the fastest way to confirm cover for your street.
Mobile technicians carry secure card machines and can take most major debit and credit cards at the roadside. They will confirm accepted payment types with you before they start work.
